Household finances, without handing anyone the keys to your bank.
obiou accounting reads the statements you export from your bank yourself. It keeps track of your accounts, transactions and assets, and works out what you are actually worth — across currencies, as one number.
What it does
- Imports the statements you already have. Export a CSV or spreadsheet from your bank and it becomes accounts and transactions. If your bank is not recognised, you can map its columns yourself, and it is recognised from then on.
- Answers one question well: what am I worth right now, counting everything — current accounts, savings, property, whatever you tell it about — converted into a single currency at real rates.
- Says where every figure came from. Each number carries whether your bank produced it or you typed it, and when it was last set. Nothing here pretends to be more certain than it is.
- Works as a household. You can see a combined picture with the people you live with — and decide, per person, whether they see your line-by-line detail or only your totals.
Who it is for
People who want one number they can act on without going and checking it against their bank afterwards, and who would rather not give a third party standing access to their accounts to get it. It is built for a household rather than a business: no invoicing, no VAT, no clients.
What happens to your data
- There is no bank connection. obiou accounting parses files you export yourself. There is no aggregator in the middle, no banking credentials to hand over and nothing to revoke — nobody is ever given standing access to your accounts.
- It is not a local-only app. What you import is stored on a server obiou runs, so it is still there on your next device. Saying that plainly matters more than sounding safer than we are.
- Administrators inside the app cannot see your money. An administrator can add people and approve a statement parser, and cannot read anyone's accounts or transactions — that is how the data is partitioned rather than a policy someone follows, and it is covered by tests that fail if it stops being true. Whoever operates the server has database access, as they do for any hosted product.
- Nothing is sold, shared or measured. No advertising, no data broker, and no analytics or tracking inside the application itself.
- If your bank needs a new parser, you can have an AI model propose the column mapping from a sample. Columns that usually carry names, balances or account numbers are masked before anything leaves your browser — letters become x, digits become 0 — while dates and amounts are sent as they are, because the mapping cannot be worked out without them. You see the exact text that would be sent and have to approve it, you can mask any other column first, and the sample is never stored. Or skip the model and map the columns by hand — that path sends nothing at all.
What it costs
Nothing. There is no billing, no subscription and no paid tier. Nothing here is for sale, and that is not an introductory offer — obiou accounting is a private tool its author also uses, not a business.
How you get in
By invitation. There is no sign-up form, because there is no self-service account: obiou accounting is used by its author and a handful of friends, and every account is created by hand. A way to register interest is coming.
